Emerson Network Power Significantly Enhances Its Capabilities to Server North American Telecom Market

Emerson acquisition of Marconi Power Business helps position Emerson Network Power as a truly global DC Systems business

ST. LOUIS, September 20, 2004 -- Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR) today announced that the recent Emerson acquisition of the outside plant and power systems business of Marconi Corporation PLC (LSE: MONI) will greatly enhance its capabilities to serve the North American telecom market and position Emerson Network Power as a truly global DC Systems business.

Renamed Emerson Network Power Energy Systems, North America, Inc. the Marconi business is now part of the Emerson Network Power group. The company's expertise and offerings in the areas of communications engineering and installation, DC power products, and outside plant products significantly enhances Emerson Network Power's ability to meet the growing power solution needs of regional Bell companies, independent telecommunications companies, inter-exchange carriers, and wireless and cable companies in North America with a complete, full-solutions offering of products and services.

"This truly complements and rounds out our global capability and offers significant synergy with existing technologies and systems," said Jim Berges, President of Emerson. "With the addition of Marconi Power Business, Emerson Network Power is now further strategically positioned to provide cutting-edge solutions and services that will continue to move the industry forward and meet growing demands in the market."

Along with the DC power products, engineering and installation services, assets acquired include outside plant products used to support the growing demand for more power and electronics placed outside the central office and closer to the subscriber.

Emerson Network Power's new "full solutions" capability is especially important to the regional Bell telephone companies as they push broadband services further into neighborhoods to compete with the cable companies. As they install more fiber into the neighborhoods, the Bell companies will have a greater need for engineering and installation expertise, as well as Electronic Equipment Cabinets which are capable of handling a large amount of power conversion and accommodate a large number of fiber and coax connections.

"The combination of Marconi's power business with the global engineering and manufacturing resources of Emerson Network Power results in a competitive advantage for our customers that is unmatched in the industry," Berges continued. "With our global product platform strategy and Marconi's strong regional configuration capabilities, we're able to blend our offerings to better serve our customers and provide a new level of customer care."
