Readylinks teams with Emerson Network Power to offer Fiber-to-the-Home GigE Ring Solutions
ReadyLinks to Demonstrate RHINO FTTH Gigabit Ethernet Ring Optical Services Gateway with Emerson Passive Optical Network Ring Pedestal
at 2007 FTTH Conference & Expo
Minneapolis, MN – September 27, 2007 – ReadyLinks today announced the launch of the RHINO OSG™ (Optical Services Gateway) that provides Fiber to the Home (FTTH) triple play IP-based services over a 2-Gigabit Ethernet Ring. The apparatus component of the completely passive outside plant network is the Emerson Network Power NetSpan FDP (Fiber Distribution Pedestal). This combination provides the most cost effective delivery of FTTH triple play services in the industry, and will be available for demonstrations at Booth #1407 of the 2007 FTTH Conference & Expo from October 1-4 in Orlando, Fl.
FTTH Gigabit Ethernet Rings have many advantages:
- There are no FTTH Optical Line Terminals in the Central Office. Ethernet Rings are connected directly to GigE optical ports on standard GigE edge switches from Cisco, Force10, Foundry, etc
- There are no FTTH PON Optical Splitters or large Cross-connect cabinets. The only OSP apparatus is the Ring Connect Pedestal in the neighborhood.
- FTTH Gigabit E-Ring is an open architecture. FTTH E-Rings are not a vendor-proprietary closed solution such as FTTH GPON.
- IPTV, VOIP and High Speed Internet are simultaneously delivered via the RHINO OSG. The OSG is equipped with 2 analog phone ports, 4 10/100 Ethernet Ports and an optional HPNA 3 interface over coax.
- No complex optical planning is necessary for FTTH E-Rings. RHINO OSGs use global standard SFP optical modules. Fiber distances from 1km to 80km from the Central Office can be supported.
- The RHINO OSG is hardened and works in harsh environments.
“Emerson Network Power is an ideal partner for ReadyLinks for FTTH E-Ring Outside Plant deployments. Their NetSpan FDP Integrated Fiber Distribution Hub Solution has several new patent-pending features that make FTTH E-Ring fiber cable installation friendly for the user and the connections highly reliable,” said Larry Synstelien ReadyLinks President and CEO. “By using Gigabit E-Rings, Service Providers are future proofing their networks and will realize the benefits of easily introducing new services and devices to their networks in the future, like HDTV, Interactive Gaming and IP Wireless access.”
George Wakileh, outside plant director of technology and new product development for Emerson Network Power adds: “The FTTH E-Ring is a fiber lean architecture that requires innovation in the passive Outside Plant. Through our partnership with ReadyLinks, we are able to create a complete end-to-end solution for network operators who are creating IP-based triple play networks.”
ReadyLinks will be exhibiting the RHINO OSG and the Emerson Network Power NetSpan FDP at the FTTH Conference & Expo, and show attendees will be able to view a live end-to-end FTTH E-Ring Triple Play network in Booth #1407. All ReadyLinks booth visitors will also receive a white paper, “Cost Effective FTTH Triple Play using Gigabit Ethernet Rings” that details the E-Ring solution.
