A grounding system safeguards your people from electric shock and helps keep your equipment from being damaged. It’s one of the most important segments of a plant’s electrical power system—and, unfortunately, one of the most neglected and least understood.
A properly grounded system reduces the possibility of voltage building up to dangerous levels on conductive surfaces during ground-fault conditions. If your plant is struck by lightning, it’s the grounding system that takes the brunt of the charge and dissipates the voltage down to safe levels. You’ll want to be sure your grounding system is properly installed when you start up—and periodically tested to make sure it’s working properly on an ongoing basis.
Look to Emerson for expertise during your startup and for preventive maintenance thereafter to ensure continued effective performance from your grounding system.
