Emerson Network Power Introduces the DCF Optimized Rack System to Provide a Flexible Foundation for Data Center Infrastructure Support

Columbus, Ohio [November 8, 2011] – Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR) and a global leader in maximizing availability, capacity and efficiency of critical infrastructure, today introduced the DCF optimized data center rack system. The pre-engineered rack system provides data centers of all sizes a flexible and efficient method for managing 19-inch servers and other rack-based IT equipment, as well as the cables, airflow and power of these systems. The product currently is shipping to select customers in North America, with full production release in select countries during 2012.

The DCF optimized rack enclosure is designed to conveniently accommodate frequent equipment changes and provide a secure environment wherein business-critical technology can be managed for performance. It is ideal for SMB data centers that require standardized racks, as well as enterprise data centers that employ a mixture of standard and custom racks. It enables simple installation of servers and rack-based equipment and power management technologies

Unlike many rack offerings, the DCF rack’s PDUs (power distribution units) required to support IT equipment can be pre-installed at the factory, saving time and effort typically required for installation on-site. Liebert MPH, Liebert MPX or Knurr DI-Strip rack PDUs are available in a variety of power configurations and can install in many places in the rack, including Zero-U space. The DCF rack system is available in eight standard sizes, including heights of 42U and 48U with widths of 23 and 31 inches (600 and 800mm) and depths of 43 and 47 inches (1,100 and 1,200mm).

“Data center managers are facing a looming critical mass of VoIP, high-speed access, wireless applications and an increasing demand for virtualized server deployment,” said Ron Bednar, director, solutions, Emerson Network Power’s Liebert North America business. “The DCF rack improves operational efficiency by providing a full-featured, cost-effective, flexible foundation for the densely-packed computing power of virtualized servers and switches, and optimizing air flow.”

The DCF rack system includes front and rear doors that are 75 percent perforated to provide maximum airflow to internal equipment. The racks are also designed for the convenience of IT personnel, featuring quick-release front and back doors with two internal hinges for easy removal and replacement by an individual. The front door, split back doors and split side panels all include keyed locks for security. The racks also feature low-profile casters that enable easy relocation—the 42U rack can easily fit through standard-sized doorways.

The DCF rack offers multiple accessories that are either tool-less or significantly more convenient to install than typical rack accessories. Accessories include:

  • Cable management products, including lobster claw, Velcro ties, and cable routing panels
  • PDU mounting brackets
  • Fixed and telescopic shelves
  • A full range of Liebert environmental sensors

The DCF optimized rack joins the DCM modular rack system, as part of the Emerson Network Power portfolio of infrastructure management solutions that can provide business-critical continuity for data centers of any size. Introduced in 2010, The DCM modular rack system provides a wide variety of features and customizable options to suit unique data center needs. It is ideal for users who require specific configurations, non-standard sizes, system integration and factory-installed components.

The DCF rack is compatible with Emerson Network Power rack PDUs, Liebert rackmount UPS systems, Emerson’s Aisle Containment solutions and Liebert MB modular busway. It also is the standard rack option for Emerson’s SmartMod modular enclosure for stand-alone data centers, and Emerson’s SmartAisle row-based infrastructure solution.
