Load Banks | Emerson Network Power

Load Banks

Ensuring proper operation of your backup power system is critical. Todays emergency standby diesel generator sets are designed to operate under a specific load level. Emerson Network Power offers Avtron Brand Load Banks which provide the complete solution with the most advanced and reliable controls in the market to provide proper loading of the backup power system.

Permanent, Portable, Containerized, Trailer-Mounted, Skid-Mounted, Radiator-Mounted, and Server Load Banks (HVAC commissioning) provide a continuous and accurate means for load testing. Emerson's Avtron Load Banks are available from 5KW up to 7MW in a single package. Available in a variety of voltages and frequencies, we have been the market leader in load bank technologies since 1953.

A Load Bank is a device which develops an electrical load, applies the load to an electrical power source and converts or dissipates the resultant power output of the source. A Load Bank is intended to accurately mimic the operational or “real” load which a power source will see in actual application. However, unlike the “real” load, which is likely to be dispersed, unpredictable, and random in value, an Avtron Load Bank provides a contained, organized, and fully controllable load. Consequently, a Load Bank can be further defined as a self-contained, systematic device which includes both load elements with control and accessory devices required for operation. Where the “real” load is served by the power source and uses the energy output of the source for some productive purpose, the Load Bank serves the power source, using its energy output to test, support, or protect the power source.

Designed for outdoor operation, these units feature highly reliable Avtron Helidyne™ load elements. Avtron permanent outdoor load banks are provided with a gasketed and heated enclosure to protect contactors and other components from condensation related problems.
Emerson's Avtron portable load banks are lightweight, compact, reliable, and built to resist vibration encountered during transportation,. These portable load banks are constructed using heavy gauge aluminized steel for years of reliable service. These units are fitted with casters or rubber shock mount feet for easy movement from one test site to another using common pickup trucks or vans.
Avtron radiator mount load banks are designed for radiator or duct mounting on diesel engine generator sets. The load bank is permanently mounted to the front of the engine generator and sized to match the width and height of the radiator core or exhaust duct opening.
Avtron inductive/reactive load banks (KVAR) are typically used in combination with resistive load banks (KW) to test a generator or power source at 0.8 power factor (lagging).
